Crimes

Each crime, year by year, India

Each chart shows the cases recorded in India in each year from 2017 to 2024, the years in which NCRB has used the crime headings it uses now. Counts fell everywhere in 2020, when the lockdown kept people away from police stations. The new criminal laws came into force in the middle of 2024, and the 2024 counts add the cases booked under the old laws and the new ones.
